Colin Johnstone
His Angry Ghost
The ground floor galleries, in the old and new quarters of the Centre, house a substantial body of work by the Orkney based artist Colin Johnstone, in his first solo exhibition at the Pier Arts Centre. His Angry Ghost brings together several groups of paintings, works on paper and sculptures in a show of compelling new work created by the artist in his search for representations of faith, love, beauty and loss. Colin Johnstone was born in Motherwell and has lived in Orkney for over twenty years, showing regularly in exhibitions in Orkney and across the UK.
The exhibition is kindly sponsored by Inver House Distillers Ltd
Sue Jane Taylor
Oilwork - The North Sea Diaries
Meanwhile, in one of the upstairs galleries, there is a chance to see Oilwork, an exhibition of prints, drawings and sculpture by Sue Jane Taylor. In 1984 Sue started creating a visual record of the construction yards, oil platforms and the people of the North Sea oil and gas industry. The exhibition celebrates Sue Jane Taylor’s impressive body of work, and the enduring relationship between the artist and Talisman Energy, the operator of the Flotta Oil Terminal and a long-term supporter of the Pier Arts Centre.
