Three Island Groups
Orkney, Shetland & Faroe
Gunnie Moberg (1941 – 2007)

(23 May – 2 August 2008)

The Orkney artist and photographer Gunnie Moberg died in October last year.

This exhibition of photographs concentrates on images of Orkney, Shetland and Faroe – three island groups that were very close to the artist’s heart and completes a tour that began at North Atlantic House in Copenhagen in 2005 and went on to be shown at Nordic House on Faroe and the new Sheltand Museum and Archive in Lerwick.

Gunnie's deceptively simple but technically assured images capture the spirit of place and people and exude a warmth, charm and engagement that naturally accompanied all of the artist’s work.

Gunnie Moberg’s work, including a portrait of her friend and artistic collaborator Orkney poet George Mackay Brown, is represented in the National Galleries of Scotland and a group of works were specially commissioned for the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh in 2004.
