  • Pier Arts Centre 28 - 36 Victoria St Stromness, Orkney Islands KW16 3AA United Kingdom (map)

Emma Ainsley & John Phillips still from Along the Shore 2023

As part of the Pier Arts Centre’s Culture Collective Round 2 programme, artists Emma Ainsley and John Phillips have worked co-creatively with people using services at the Kalisgarth Centre, Westray and the Glaitness Centre, Kirkwall. They have created two new works - Along the Shore, a video with sound from Kalisgarth and Happy Places, an interactive installation from the Glaitness Centre. These will be on display at the Pier Arts Centre 8 - 19 August 2023.

Emma and John will be in attendance throughout the display and will lead two workshops in relation to their creative practice

Isadora Software Introduction Saturday 12 August 10.30-11.30am

Isadora is a no-code environment for visual and audio programming. It enables the creation of interactive work and is used in exhibitions and theatre environments. The installation in the library uses Isadora to allow visitors to manipulate the audio-visual space in real time. This is a one hour introduction to Isadora including:

• The range of functionality of the software – what it can do

• The principles of how it works

• A demonstration of the software in action

By the end of the session, you’ll have a good idea of what Isadora is and how you may want to use it creatively.

Co-creative Workshop Saturday 12 August 2.00-4.00pm

Emma and John deliver co-creative sessions and projects through art and music, alongside disabled people of all ages. This is a two hour session including

• An introduction to their co-creative ‘jamming’ approach

• Tools, tips and tricks for a co-creative session

• Time for a shared jamming experience – learning by doing

• Space for discussion and questions

No special skills required, just bring your creativity.

Isadora One-to-One Sessions Available Tuesday 8 - Saturday 19 August

Emma uses Isadora software to build interactive audio-visual patches for use during co-creative sessions and for exhibition spaces. She is offering five one hour bookable one-to-one sessions, to work with her inside the Isadora environment. These are for you if you’d like to take a focused look at what the software could do for you. If you’re interested in a no-code environment that offers the potential to make interactive audio-visual stuff then come and have a play. Emma will help you to explore the software in response to your interests.
