private view - a collection of self portraits
| If my work had to be titled or categorised it would have to be 'landscape'. Therefore, being asked to create a self portrait was a challenge for me and one which I enjoyed. I decided to work in my usual manner and material, ie a combination of a landscape which is familiar to me, incorporating a self portrait and printed from a woodcut. A woodcut is an ideal medium to use as it forces you to think of tone and shape more acutely and therefore possibly more critically, as the marks you make are determined by the tools you use and the wood itself. |
