private view - a collection of self portraits
Working with the medium of photography presented considerable problems when making a self portrait. Instead of photographing myself directly, I decided to approach my self portrait from an initially 'candid' image, using a photograph taken without my knowledge, and therefore without any personal self consciousness involved. This freed me to work 'personally' with my photographic treatment and the general image content of my constructed composition - dealing with ideas of 'self and 'portrait' through the whole approach and use of the medium.
