Robyn Denny b. 1930

Born in 1930 in Abinger, Surrey, Denny studied at St Martin's School of Art from 1951-54 and at the Royal Collage of Art, London between 1954-57. He became a visiting lecturer at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham 1959-65 and the Slade School of Art from 1965-71. He has been an advisor to the Arts Council of Great Britain, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, London. Robyn Denny lives and works in London.

This work was painted in the year that the first major exhibition of American Abstract Expressionism was held at the Tate Gallery in London. Denny's first one-man exhibition was held at Gimpel Fils, London a year later in 1958, when Denny was teaching at Hammersmith School of Art.
