The Toy Box is a collection of paintings, collage and sculptural work created by the Orcadian artist Stuart Sim that evokes memories and imagery of childhood. The works are carefully arranged together in a specially decorated room that invites visitors to meander through and contemplate the stories behind the carefully crafted objects. In an adjoining room a sequence of short films, with images and music created by the artist, offer a poetic interpretation of the installation that hint at the joy and mystery that childhood recollections can invoke.

Stuart Sim studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and moved to London, following a travelling scholarship to Paris (where he was based at the William Hayter Atelier 17 studio), to work as a scenic artist at the BBC, creating sets and props for a multitude of programmes including Dr Who. He has also lectured in art and design in Glasgow and at the Orkney College and has exhibited widely in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London. He lives and works in Finstown, Orkney.
