Meet the Artists Event at the Pier Arts Centre

Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC) in Japan has been collaborating with international organisations to run an Artist-in-Residence (AIR) programme since 2016. The Pier Arts Centre is pleased to be partnering with ACAC on an artists’ exchange in 2025/26.

Orkney based visual artist and writer Samantha Clark was awarded the residency opportunity to spend November 2025 in Aomori, Japan. Samantha’s work responds to the dynamic natural environment of wind, sky and sea in Orkney.

In March 2026, Japanese artist Shinobu Daito is spending four weeks in Orkney. Based at Linkshouse in Birsay, Shinobu will spend time exploring Orkney’s coastal heritage.

Come along to this informal event to meet Samantha and Shinobu and learn about their experiences in Orkney and Japan.
