Join us for the first Piergroup session of 2025 on Tuesday 18 March at 7:30pm

This session, plus a further session on Tuesday 1 April at 7.30pm, will be led by Even Here, Even Now Orkney advocate artists Kerrianne Flett and Frances Pelly, and will have a focus on drawing and sculpture, requiring you to work quickly and instinctively.

Both sessions will be quite fast paced with a ‘hands on’ approach. You will each be given a waxed paper carton and asked to alter it slightly using a folding technique. You will then get the chance to photograph &/or sketch the results from several angles and then these studies will form the basis for the next session where the group works as a ‘chain.

Piergroup is our young people’s collective for 16-26 year olds. Maintaining a relationship with senior students at local schools and artists emerging from Scottish and other Art Schools is a key part of the Piergroup philosophy. 

Even Here, Even Now is a campaign and manifesto created through Culture Collective to advocating for island-based artists in Scotland.

Culture Collective is a network of 26 participatory arts projects, shaped by local communities alongside artists and creative organisations. Funded by Creative Scotland, it is led in partnership by An Lanntair (Lewis and Harris, Outer Hebrides), Pier Arts Centre (Orkney), Shetland Arts (Shetland) and Taigh Chearsabhagh (North Uist, Outer Hebrides).

Get off at Stromness Ferry Terminal, and walk to the gallery (2 mins)

The X1 bus back to Kirkwall leaves Stromness Ferry Termiinal @21.00 - we will always finish the session in time for you to catch this bus (if anyone needs to leave earlier, that won't ever be a problem. Please just ask!)
